Until horses came into my life, nothing really inspired me to take a better picture. When I stepped onto the property at Horses' Haven that all changed. I had no idea the individual personalities horses had, the connection to people they craved, the peace they give you within. My first love (at Horses' Haven) was an old blind pony named Nikki. I could lead him, I could brush and hug him without feeling scared. To a newbie, horses can be big, scary, hairy beasts that want to kill you so having Nikki around the farm was my security. I guess you could say he broke the ice for me. Then along came Rudy, my soulmate. He was nothing like Nikki ... tall, young, skittish Saddlebred that was drop dead gorgeous. I couldn't keep my eyes off of him. Every time my volunteer shift started my eyes went right to Rudy. A couple years later when I became more comfortable around horses I got the opportunity to adopt him. He changed my world, my heart and my bank account (ha!). I have had him now for 9 years.
Today, I own three horses and they live on our farm in Ortonville, Michigan. Their names are Rudy, Rykin and Nacho. I am married and have 2 little boys, Ryan and Luke. I work as a graphic/web designer but my passion is photography. I just crave it! I love the instant results you get and "of course" I love to hear how happy people are when they see their online gallery for the first time.
I LOVE photographing horses and their people and capturing the connection that they share. One of my favorite shots is the horse running free with his/her mane flying in the air ... to me it represents a sense of freedom and wildness that is not only beautiful but emotional. See my "Mane Shots".
So take a look at my gallery and if you like what you see, please don't hesitate to call me! ~ Lisa
